Driving tips for Norwich

Norwich, located on the River Wensum, is a cathedral city and the county town of Norfolk in England. It boasts one of the largest medieval cathedrals in the country, situated approximately 100 miles northeast of London. Norwich has an irresistible blend of old-world charm and natural beauty.

The main routes into Norwich are the A47, A11, A140 and A146. The A47 passes the City to the South East as an outer ring road, and the newer Broadland Northway' or NDR, links the A47 to the southeast of the city from the North.

An inner ring road comprises the A146 in the South, leading into the A1067 to the North and the A1042 in the East.

The road network has recently changed to minimise city centre traffic flow. Simultaneously, accessing the multi-storey car parks in the centre has become more convenient. These changes have affected the city's movement of cars and other general traffic.

The designated pedestrian zones in its city centre are marked where access is restricted or prohibited. Pay attention to signage and road markings to avoid driving into these areas, which may result in fines or penalties.

Norwich's low emission zone

Although there isn't a chargeable Clean Air Zone in Norwich, local authorities are obligated to conduct annual air quality reviews in their respective areas. Norwich has also pledged to maintain the air quality in its Greater Norwich Growth Area Pledge.

Norwich has also secured £500,000 in Zero Emission Transport City (ZETC) development funding from the government, thanks to a successful bid by Norfolk County Council.

This makes Norwich one of only three cities in the UK to receive such funding. The Department for Transport will use the funding to conduct a detailed study, working alongside residents, businesses, and transport operators to explore the benefits and impacts of establishing a zero-emission zone in the city centre.
